A Bit About Leah: Film Fanatic

Ever since I was young, I have been enchanted by all forms of photography. I have always been creative, but not in a"traditionally" artistic sense - I cannot draw, paint, mold, et cetera. My dad was the first person who introduced me to film photography; growing up, he always took all of our family and baby photos with a Canon AE-1 35mm film camera. I remember I thought it was absolutely fascinating how a projection of manipulated light could yield varying and beautiful portraits after my dad explained to me the mechanics of photography. Through film photography, I had finally found a way to play with my creative side, without being artistically restricted. My dad let me borrow his camera (and has yet to get it back!) and I quickly learned how to manipulate lighting and the mechanical components to create unique photographs.
Below are some examples of my favourite multiple and/or long exposure pieces, all taken with a Canon AE-1 on 35mm film. My themes encompass sustainability and environmental foundations, and I hope to provoke feelings of nostalgia, emotional beginnings, and personal growth.
Additionally, to long and multiple exposures, I enjoy working with the grain and low-lighting options which disposable film offers. Below is a set of several of my favourite single exposure photographs. Some were taken with disposable film, and others were taken with my Canon-AE1. Minus the background my Leadership page, the background photos of this webpage were all taken by me.
The LSU Newspaper, The Reveille, actually featured me in a story about my film photography. You can view it in the provided link below!
